Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy

KAP (ketamine assisted psychotherapy) decreases ruminations (worry thoughts), quiets the brain and produces a state of relaxation from ordinary concerns and one’s usual state of mind. The goal of oral ketamine given in an outpatient psychiatric setting is to allow your brain to relax into a dissociative state that will disrupt your chronic negative feelings and obsessive preoccupations. Developing a “mind-set” or intention prior to your journey is key, as well as follow up integration work.

Currently Serving Oregon & Colorado

Retreats held in Oregon

Also offering SPRAVATO® Treatment to qualifying individuals

Oral Ketamine is only offered to those 18 years or older. There are certain conditions where Ketamine is contraindicated. Your Board Certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner who has received specialized training in psychedelic-assisted modalities will make the final determination if you qualify.

Oral ketamine used to treat psychiatric conditions is considered an “off-label” use by the FDA.

Research has shown that the enhanced neuroplasticity state that oral ketamine induces can last for weeks. Continued daily integration work is key for maximizing the benefits of ketamine. Your integration guide will provide you with tools to continue this important work for the home setting.

The Cost:

$350.00 for initial psychiatric evaluation. This may be covered by insurance, however Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is not covered by ANY insurance plan at this time.

Sessions (total of 6 sessions is recommended by the research for long-lasting results): $339.00 each.

Sessions 1,2,3 and 6 are guided. Sessions 4 and 5 are self-guided.

Additional integration sessions are offered at $75.00/hour.

Sliding Scale available for BIPOC. While offering a discount in this manner can be considered controversial and a micro-aggression by some, I want my business to reflect reparative pricing. This is one small action my business can engage in to encourage systemic amendments. This is not charity, nor is there an ingrained assumption that the BIPOC community cannot afford the fees listed. Reparations are needed because they are owed unconditionally, consistently and systematically. They are one way to begin to dismantle white supremacy. As a BIPOC member, please feel free to discuss with me if this offends or concerns you in any way. I am open to finding a solution that feels best for you.

SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved, ketamine-based nasal spray designed to help you break through depression that has defied typical treatments.

SPRAVATO® vs Ketamine

SPRAVATO® is a ketamine-based treatment, but differs from IV and oral Ketamine. Esketamine nasal spray, SPRAVATO®, is FDA-approved and has a research based safety profile. When used at a treatment center under the supervision of a provider, it has been proven to help people break through depression where other typical medications have not worked. Most insurances will approve the use of SPRAVATO® if you have failed 2-4 medications for depression. Some insurances have additional restrictions. I will work with your insurance company and my SPRAVATO® case manager to ensure eligibility and coverage for you.

Deb Avery is a board certified Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner licensed in Oregon & Colorado with full prescriptive authority. I hold a Masters Degree in Nursing: Child and Adult Psychiatry. I also have a Bachelors Degree in Anthropology.

I have received specialized training through SCPTR, Salt City Psychedelic Training and Research Center and California Institute of Integral Studies (CIIS) in order to best understand how to utilize ketamine and other psychedelic modalities in a safe and effective manner. I am the chapter head of the Psychedelic Medicine Association for the State of Oregon.

I also utilize Jungian concepts in my psychiatry practice as well as shamanic and archetypal astrology to provide individuals with insights into their innate nature as well as how the Universe influences each of us. I am also available to consult with you regarding your Natal Chart and inform you of important astrological aspects that inform you of the energy you are working in.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is also emerging as a synergetic modality very well suited to psychedelic sessions. Getting all of our “parts” communicating with each other leads to integration and the revelation of our true Selves. This is utilized in conjunction with Ketamine.

My practice offers a unique mix of biology-based science, holistic modalities as well as esoteric and mystical offerings. Each treatment plan is developed in collaboration with the client and based upon the clients personal goals for healing and growth.

I believe that each individual has the knowledge within them to heal themselves. But sometimes circumstances, illness, stress, trauma, etc. blocks us from accessing this information.

I am also certified in level I Brain Spotting:

Where you look affects how you feel. Brain spotting Psychotherapy is brain-based targeting the deeper subcortical areas of the brain, brain stem and spine. Brain spotting locates points in the client’s visual field that help to access unprocessed trauma in the subcortical brain. Brain spotting (BSP) was discovered in 2003 by David Grand, Ph.D. Brain spotting is effective for a wide variety of emotional and somatic conditions. Brains potting is particularly effective with trauma-based situations, helping to identify and heal underlying trauma that contributes to anxiety, depression and other behavioral conditions. It can also be used with performance and creativity enhancement. Brain spotting gives the therapist access to both brain and body processes. Its goal is to bypass the conscious, neocortical thinking to access the deeper, subcortical emotional and body-based parts of the brain. I only perform Brain spotting in person.

A good therapeutic relationship helps the patient to let go of psychological defenses, surrender to the experience, and endure the difficult periods of sessions characterized by intense physical and emotional suffering or confusion. The quality of the therapeutic relationship is essential for working through the most crucial situations in psychedelic therapy, the crisis of trust. ~Stan Grof
